43 years, she was referred to as Jane Doe #40, But not anymore. On Thursday, San Francisco homicide detectives announced that they have identified Judy Gifford who was murdered in 1976 43 years ago. The girl was just 14 and thousands of miles from her home New Jersey. On Oct. 1, 1976, a dog walker had discovered a body after finding a hand sticking out from the sand at Lake Merced in San Francisco. The victim ( Judy Gifford ) was a young Asian female who was said to be carrying distinctive jewelry. It was determined at a later time that the teen had vanished from Frisco at around the same time as that the 1976 murder took place. Gifford's siblings knew that they had a sister they just “never knew what happened to her.” The investigators from New Jersey worked with the investigators in San Francisco, they collected DNA samples from the girls' aunt ( Ogee Gifford ). The girls' aunt had also provided a photo that had helped break open the case. “The necklace she was wearing at the time had an oval shape,” that same necklace was on the picture that Ogee had provided to the investigators. Cops are still looking for the person/persons that killed this young lady.
