Vegan sneakers set to be next plant-based craze in 2020
Reebok has unveiled its brand new design for the plant-based sneaker/running shoe. The shoe "Floatride GROW" is expected to hit shelves in the fall of 2020. Eco-friendly/meatless food products changed the marketing industry in 2019. Experts say that next year’s game is changing because of the new trend in sustainable consumer goods being plant-based or “vegan”. The upper part of the shoe is made primarily from eucalyptus, which is a genus of over seven hundred species of flowering trees. The shoe's soles have been made from castor beans and natural rubber. This shoe is a version of its Newport Classic shoes which is made with cotton and corn, however, Newport is a "Lifestyle" shoe unlike the "Floatride" which is designed for athletic use.
Americans throw away 300 million pairs of shoes each year, according to the US Department of the Interior. Combined with old worn-out clothes, shoes accounted for roughly 8.9 million tons of wast about 17.6% of the 50.7 million tons of trash that filled American landfills.
